Welcome toThrybergh Fullerton C of E Primary Academy

Group 1

Welcome to life in Foundation two!! This term we will be ensuring your child is settled and happy in school, to enable them to make progress across the curriculum over the coming year. We have lots of exciting activities and opportunities planned throughout the year and we are looking forward to seeing each and every one of your children grow in confidence and skills.

Please do not hesitate to ask any of the staff in class any questions, no matter how small. We strongly believe for your child to achieve their potential, both school and home need to work in partnership.

We begin our learning by learning all about superheroes. We are now Superheroes in training. We will complete special missions and try to defeat Captain Banana with the help of Captain Courageous. What would your super power be? Talk to your child about what their super power could be, help them to think about what they will wear. We will be making our outfits ready to defeat Captain Banana.

Then we will be learning all about farms and the life on a farm. We will be going on a trip to Cannon Hall farm. Here the children will see lots of animals up close, learn lots of interesting facts and use all of their senses to explore the world around them.

After this at the end of November our topic will change again to Winter and learning all about Christmas. We will learn about the true meaning of Christmas as well as taking part in many fun and traditional Christmas festivities.

On a Friday your child will bring home a reading book. This will be swapped once a week. Please listen to your child read this book, talk about the pictures and how to use these for clues to help read unknown words, use phonic pure sounds  (see the You tube link below) to sound out the words and re read sentences after sounding out for understanding of the book. Small amounts of reading little and often work best for children learning to read at this age, so 5 - 10 minutes 4 – 5 times a week is far better than half an hour or longer once a week. Every time your child reads please complete their white reading record book, they receive awards for reading at home.

  • Book bags need to be brought into school every day.

  • Water bottles are needed in school every day.

  • Wellies can be left in school if children want to go in the mud kitchen.

  • Children need a pair of indoor shoes which should be left in school.

  • Your child will need a coat every day, as they will be outside at lunch time as well as during some of the lesson time.

  • Once again welcome to Foundation 2 and thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you and your children this coming year.
