Welcome to Group 2 with
Mrs Whitehead-Price and
Welcome back to school after the holiday. It has been a pleasure to hear all about the exciting things you have been up to during the break.
This term we will be working on our new topic; Land Ahoy! We will be learning all about pirates. We will be having a visit from Captain Burwash, who will be bringing some artefacts and inspiring the children with lots of interactive and fun activities. Later on in the term we will be going on a visit to Cleethorpes with our partner schools. Fingers crossed for sunshine!
Group 2's P.E sessions this half term will take place on a Monday and Tuesday . Please can you make sure that your child has suitable P.E kit in school for these days and ensure that ALL clothes are fully labelled with your child’s name. Some of these lessons may take place outside so please ensure your child is provided with suitable kit for indoor and outdoor PE.
To keep our school environment clean could children please have a change of indoor shoes or slippers. There is a space in the classroom for children to keep their shoes, we really would like to keep our new carpet clean.
Spelling tests will take place every Monday, with new spellings to be given out to be practised at home for the following week. We thank you for your help in supporting your child with this.
In addition to weekly spellings the Year 2 children will also have a weekly times tables test. This will take place on a Tuesday. By the end of Year 2 the children are expected to be fluent in recalling multiplication and division facts from the 10, 5, 2 and 3 times tables. Just a few minutes each day will help to build their confidence to recall these facts quickly.
Reading diaries can be brought to school at your convenience to be checked. Please hand them to the adult in class so they can be marked. The children receive a special award in assembly for every 50 reads so please continue to fill in the reading diaries. Bug Club reading also counts towards their 50 reads too, so make a note of it.
Please could you bring your school reading book into school to be changed on a Tuesday.
If you have any queries about anything please don’t hesitate to ask. We are always happy to help.

Dear Parents & carers.
As part of our learning in numeracy we have been working hard on recall of times tables facts for the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. We have been having a weekly test to ensure the children are confident and can recall these facts quickly. Thank you for helping your child with this learning.
We will continue with the tests each week this term. The children will still have 13 questions to answer but they will need to read the number sentence carefully to determine which times table it is asking them to recall.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions please just ask.
