Group 4

Welcome to Group 4 with
Miss Beevers!

Welcome to Group 4! We are just starting the Summer Term and the children are settling straight back into their learning. This will be a very busy term especially for the Year 6's who are continuing their SATs preparations and will be starting their transition to their Comprehensive Schools. The Year 5 children will be working with Mr Turner in the resource room most mornings and afternoons for the first few weeks of this term. This will allow Miss Beevers to spend some directed time with the Year 6 children and get them ready and confident for SATs. After SATs, Mr Turner and Miss Beevers will be working together with all of Group 4.

In Group 4 this half term, we are learning all about Tomorrow's World! With Miss Beevers and Mr Turner, we will learn through a range of cross curricular activities - children will research the technologies we use, understand how certain technologies work, investigate what networks are, look at what malware is and how it effects technology, explore coding and programming and lots more! We will also be visiting the Apple Store to experience their technologies and create our own gadget which is linked to our novel for this topic - Alex Rider: Stormbreaker.

In Group 4 on Tuesday afternoons we have our spelling and times tables test with Mrs Towers. This year the spelling test on a Tuesday will be a mixture of 10 spellings that follow a spelling rule we are currently learning about and 10 unknown spellings - children will have to use their spelling skills and knowledge to find the correct spelling. Times tables are practised in lessons and should be practised at home throughout the week - 5 minutes per day. Children are to practise their times tables up to 12 x 12. It is incredibly important that children learn these well as it is essential knowledge in lots of number work.

P.E.
Our P.E. day is every Tuesday and Wednesday so please bring appropriate indoor and outdoor P.E. kit. Kit consists of a white T shirt, black shorts/jogging bottoms and suitable footwear. It would be useful if PE kit was left in school all week in case we have to change our PE lessons for any reason or add extra lessons in! We are very lucky at the minute to have Mrs Towers leading one of our PE sessions and sharing her expertise. We aim to get outside for PE where possible so please make sure they have appropriate kit and footwear.

Homework
Children in Group 4 should:
- read every night for at least 15 minutes
- practise their times tables every day for 5 minutes
- practise their spellings for 5 minutes each day (Monday- Thursday).
In addition to this, Year 5 children will receive two pieces of homework on a Monday to be completed and brought back in for the following Monday - this will usually be a maths and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) worksheet. Year 6 children will be asked to complete homework three times a week (Monday, Wednesday Friday) in the run up to SATs starting from January.

Please be reminded that as the weather becomes more inclement we would appreciate children bringing appropriate indoor shoes/slippers to wear in school.

Thank you,
Miss Beevers
