Welcome toThrybergh Fullerton C of E Primary Academy

Class 1 - Miss Jones

Welcome to Class 1 with Miss Jones and Mrs Spencer

    Welcome back!

We are looking forward to lots of new learning opportunities over the coming weeks.

This term in year 1 our first topic is Enchanted Woodland, where the children will develop their knowledge of British wildlife and woodland habitats. We will begin our topic with a memorable experience, where the children will take part in a variety of Forest School activities including: making fairy wands, stickmen, bug hunting, bird watching and mud painting.

In this term we will be learning all about owls. We will be looking at the story of Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood and learning how to retell these stories orally. We will learn how to follow and write a set of instructions to make a woodland crown. There will also be chance to investigate how pine cones change in different weather conditions and why leaves change colour.

Class 1's P.E sessions this half term will take place on a Monday and Thursday. Please could you ensure that earrings are removed on these days so that your child is able to take part in the lessons. Both of the lessons will take place outside, but you will not need to send your child with P.E kit for this first half term as we are trying to limit the number of items brought in to school. We will let you know when this changes.

A pack of spellings has been sent home for your child to learn weekly. The Year 1 spelling test will take place every week, thank you for  supporting your child with this.

This year we have a new home- school planner, where you can record when your child's reads and keep track of homework.

School reading books will be needed everyday and changed on a weekly basis  so please make sure that book bags are brought into school on a daily basis.

Homework

Children will be given spellings to practise on a weekly basis, they are also expected to read daily. Additional maths, phonics and SPaG homework may be given weekly also.

If you have any queries about anything please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you

Miss Jones
