Welcome toThrybergh Fullerton C of E Primary Academy

Class 1 - Miss Jones

Welcome to Class 1 with Miss Jones, Mrs Spencer and Mrs Sewell.

We are looking forward to lots of new learning opportunities over the coming weeks.

Watch out everyone – the dinosaurs are on the prowl in our new topic 'Dinosaur Planet'. They’re rampaging across the dusty earth, swishing their enormous tails and baring their fearsome teeth.

Our dinosaur adventure begins with a visitor from the Dinostar museum in Hull, where children will get a chance to handle dinosaur bones and fossils. They will take part in a fossil dig and take fossil rubbings while finding out lots of dinosaur facts.

In this topic children will learn about carnivores and herbivores and how their teeth are different by becoming a Dino Dentist for the afternoon. In literacy the children will be retelling the story ‘Trouble at the dinosaur café’ by Brian Moses and writing instructions on how to look after your dinosaur, based on the book with the same title by Jason Cockcroft. We will investigate the actual size of some dinosaurs and draw a life sized dinosaur in chalk on the playground. We will learn all about Mary Anning and why she is an important historical figure.

Class 1's P.E sessions this half term will take place on a Monday and Friday. Please remember that your child should come in P.E  kit suitable for outdoor lessons on these days.  Please could you also ensure that earrings are removed on these days so that your child is able to take part in the lesson.

A pack of spellings has been sent home for your child to learn weekly. Year 1 spelling test will take place every Monday. We thank you for your help in supporting your child with this.

Book bags, reading books and planners should be brought into school daily, so that the children can have them written in  by staff when they read in school time. The children receive a special award in assembly for every 50 reads so please continue to record reading in their planners.

School reading books will be changed every Friday in class. Listening to your child read for just ten minutes each day can have a significant impact on their learning.

Homework

Children will be given spellings to practise on a weekly basis, they are also expected to read daily.

Additional maths, phonics and SPaG homework may be given weekly also.

If you have any queries about anything please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you

Miss Jones
