This term in year 1 our first topic is Enchanted Woodland, where the children will develop their knowledge of British wildlife and woodland habitats. We will begin our topic with a memorable experience, where the children will take part in a variety of Forest School activities including: making fairy wands, stickmen, bug hunting, bird watching and mud painting. In the coming weeks we will be learning lots of facts about owls. Our class texts include: Hansel and Gretel, The Gruffalo and Elves and the shoemaker. We will be learning how to retell these stories orally and in writing. We will also learn how to follow and write a set of instructions to make a woodland crown. There will also be chance to carry out a science investigation into how pine cones change in different weather conditions and why leaves change colour.
Class 1's P.E sessions this half term will take place on a Thursday and Friday. The Thursday lesson will be inside but the Friday lesson will be outside so please send your child in suitable outdoor clothing on this day including trainers, a long sleeved top or hoodie and tracksuit bottoms. Children will need to come to school dressed in P.E kit on these days.
Please could you also ensure that earrings are removed on these days so that your child is able to take part in the lesson as we cannot remove these in school. Thank you.
A pack of spellings has been sent home for your child to learn weekly. The Year 1 spelling test will take place every Thursday, We thank you for your help in supporting your child with this.
Book bags will be needed in school every day and will be changed in our class library every week.

Bronze- 50 reads
Silver- 100 reads

Listening to your child read for just ten minutes each day can have a significant impact on their learning. Thank you for supporting your child in this.
