Welcome to the Summer Term 2025 in Foundation One
It is great to see the children back in school, they are all eager and excited to learn, which is lovely to see! We are looking forward to our new topics for the Summer Term which will build on the knowledge and skills we have already learnt.
A warm welcome to our new children who have started this week, the children have settled into school really well and are busy learning all the routines of our class. They are beginning to develop their own interests as well as making new friends. Thank you for all your support in settling the children into their new class. If you have any questions please see one of the foundation team, we are always here to help and support you.
Our Summer Term One Topic is “Sunshine and Sunflowers”
In the Sunshine and Sunflowers project your child will explore their local environment and see how it has changed throughout the year. They will grow flowers, fruit and vegetables in the garden area. They will learn how to care for plants and animals, identifying some different types. They will take part in outdoor learning activities and find out how to stay safe in the sun.
Supporting your child at home
Grow some quick growing plants together, such as salad leaves, radishes or cress.
Plan and go on a picnic.
Go on a local walk and talk about the changes that have happened to living things throughout the year.
Share and discuss the Did you know? resource.
Sunshine and Sunflowers-Did You Know?
Our Summer Term Two Topic is “Big Wide World”
In the Big Wide World project, your child will find out about the world in which they live. They will learn about different climates and explore habitats, including their flora and fauna. They will locate the United Kingdom on a world map and compare life in the United Kingdom with life elsewhere. They will also learn about caring for their environment, both locally and beyond.
Supporting your child at home
Use Google Earth to explore where you live and look up places you would like to visit.
Talk about places around the world you have visited, or places that family members or friends live. Look at the places on a map and talk about ways to travel.
If you go on holiday, send a postcard to school to show where you went.
Share and discuss the Did you know? resource.
Reading
Early reading is key to all we do and incredibly important across the whole of our EYFS curriculum, your support is vital in helping your child develop the confidence and love of reading to reach their full potential. Please read as often to your child as possible, sharing a book at bedtime every night is a good way of developing a love of reading. Sharing a story with your child everyday can have a significant impact on their learning and development. Please make sure your child brings their book bag to school everyday and your child's reading book will be changed in our class library every Friday. Thank you for your support.
Physical Development
Developing physical skills is a key area in our early years curriculum, we plan lots of physical activities for the children to develop their fine and gross motor skills in the indoor and outdoor provision. The children will join in with Dough disco, squiggle sessions, parachute games as well as lots of other physical activities in their learning environment. As these activities will be available throughout the week we will not have a set PE day or session, therefore your child will not need a PE kit.
If you have any queries about anything, please do not hesitate to ask any of the foundation one team.
Thank you for your continued support.
