Welcome to Reading Rangers class with Miss Jones and Mrs Spencer
In our new topic School Days, the children will learn about their own school and locality, both today and in the past. They will compare schooling in the Victorian era to their experience today. They will also will have a Victorian school experience to gain a better understanding of what life was like in the Victorian classroom. We will look at who Samuel Wilderspin is and how his views and actions in the past changed school life today. As part of our science learning, we will learn all about food sources and will prepare and make their own salad and design and make their own sandwich. As part of our art learning we will look at the work of artist James Rizzi and create our own 3-D mural of buildings that surround the school.
Our P.E sessions this half term will take place on Monday and Wednesday. The Monday lesson will be outside so please send your child with suitable outdoor clothing on this day including trainers, a long sleeved top and full length trousers. The Wednesday lesson will be inside. Please could you ensure that earrings are removed on these days so that your child is able to take part in the lesson as we cannot remove these in school. Thank you.
Reading
Book bags will be needed in school every day and will be changed in our class library every week.
Homework
A pack of spellings has been sent home for your child to practise weekly. The Year 1 spelling test will take place every Thursday. As well as weekly spellings , children are expected to read at home daily. Please encourage your child to take part in the phonics videos that are sent home weekly as part of their reading practise.
Additional maths, phonics or topic homework may be given weekly also.
