Farmer Time

We are very lucky to announce that we have partnered with Mrs Ashley, our new Farmer Time farmer!

A little bit of information about our farmer:

I’m Donna Ashlee and I am 44 years old. My husband is called Paul and we have a 6 year old daughter called Emily. We live in Woodchurch in Kent and our farm is called Oak Farm and it is in Great Chart near Ashford (sadly in the news right now).

I am an Assistant Principal at Brockhill Park Performing Arts College near Hythe in Kent which is a secondary comprehensive school with a school farm. I teach Geography and Rural Studies to our lovely students.

My hobbies include reading (I’m an avid reader - so important) and growing things especially vegetables which I started doing last year in lockdown. I’m hoping to get my own poly tunnel. I also enjoy walking - I do lots of nature walks with Emily.

Over the last term our farmer has sent a variety of videos covering:

  • A tour of her farm, showing us what animals live there and how they are looked after
  • Signs of Spring on the farm
  • Lambs and calves being born and how the babies are looked after
  • Sheep sheering and how this process is done and what happens afterwards
  • A whole school naming competition for a brand new calf - the winner named him Bilbo which linked to the class text for that child

Animals and their habitats - Year 2 were very excited to adopt African Land snails this term. Sheila and Tom have adapted well into the classroom and the children feed and monitor them daily. We discussed the climate they live in and what we needed to do to help them survive in a colder climate.
